Four Friends Coffeehouse

Four Friends Coffeehouse was a coffee shop and concert venue located in the Center City portion of the Heartside-Downtown neighborhood. It was first opened in 1994 by four friends who wanted to create a smoke-free place for music and drinks. The original owners were two couples, Melissa LaGrand and David LaGrand, Sara DeBoer and Karl Swedberg. The LaGrands are still a part of the coffeehouse, sharing ownership with Jim and Barb McClurg. It was next to McKay Tower and across Monroe Center from Rosa Parks Circle. The coffeeshop closed suddenly in summer 2008.

The robust lunch food menu mirrored most of the selection found at the Wealthy Street Bakery, which currently shares the same owners. However, Wealthy Street Bakery did not provide the bagels. Sandwiches, paninis, soups, bagel sandwiches, cookies, scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, biscotti, as well as many other items were made fresh on the spot or freshly baked each morning and delivered from the bakery.

In addition to serving food and coffee they also featured Palazzolo's Gelato—which is an Italian style, richly-flavored gelato made locally in Saugatuck.
